Nigerian music star Tems is on the verge of making history as the first African artist to win two Grammy Awards in one night, according to Billboard.
She has been nominated in three categories at this year’s Grammys:
- Best African Music Performance (Love Me Jeje)
- Best Global Music Album (Born In The Wild)
- Best R&B Song (Burning)
Billboard predicts that Tems will win in two of these categories when the awards take place on Sunday, February 2nd, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Her song Love Me Jeje, a remake of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit, is expected to win Best African Music Performance, beating songs by Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Yemi Alade, and Asake.
For Best Global Music Album, her debut project Born In The Wild is the favorite to win, with strong competition from Rema, Matt B, Ciro Hurtado, and Antonio Rey.
Even though Tems is the only previous Grammy winner in this category, Billboard suggests that Antonio Rey’s album is also a strong contender.
However, the Grammys are full of surprises, so nothing is certain until the winners are announced.
This year’s event will be hosted by Trevor Noah for the fifth time, while Beyoncé leads the nominations with eleven nods at the 67th Grammy Awards.
