Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Tems, has canceled her Born in the Wild tour stop in Kigali, Rwanda, originally scheduled for March 22, 2025.
The decision comes amid rising tensions between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) due to the ongoing conflict in the region.
In an Instagram post, Tems expressed regret for promoting the show without being aware of the situation, apologizing for any insensitivity.
“I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realizing there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way,” she stated.
The cancellation follows reports that M23, an armed group that broke away from the DRC military over a decade ago, has claimed control of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province. Rwanda has been accused of supporting the group.
