Hello Naijaloggers, Welcome to our first class in French. To start with, we’ll learn simple and common names of items in French. I’ll also advise we try and employ these in our day to day activities. The local pronunciation is also written to help you get it on your own.

1- Une Assiette  [hune asiẹtt]– A plate

Now, let’s try and make sentences with the words we’ve learnt.

We’ll use the verbs “Donner” which means “To Give”; “Vouloir” which means “To Want”

1- Donnes moi une assiette [donn mwa hune asiẹtt]/ Je veux une assiette [djo voe hune asiẹtt]

Give me a plate                                                                / I want a plate

2- Donnes moi une fourchette [donn mwa hune foorshẹt] /Je veux une fourchette [djo voe hune foorshẹt]

Give me a plate                                                                                / I want a fork

3- Donnes moi un couteau [don mwa hun  kuto]/ Je veux un couteau [djo voe hun  kuto]

Give me a knife                                                           / I want a knife

4- Donnes moi une cuillère [don mwa hune kuyẹr]/ Je veux une cuillère [djo voe hune kuyẹr]

Give me a spoon                                                           / I want a spoon

–          So, try and do the remaining and see if you’ve learnt something.

Forte hausse du chômage en avril

Le chômage a de nouveau, et très fortement, augmenté en avril, selon les chiffres publiés, jeudi 30 mai, par le ministère du travail. Le nombre de chômeurs sans aucune activité au cours du mois (catégorie A) a bondi de 43 300 personnes sur la France entière. Ce qui fait d’avril une des plus fortes hausses depuis le début de l’année.

Sharp rise in unemployment in April

Unemployment has again strongly increased in April, according to figures released Thursday, May 30, by the Ministry of Labour. The number of unemployed during the month (Category A) increased by  43,300 people across France. This made April one of the largest increases since the beginning of the year.
