Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has stood by his earlier statement that “fornication isn’t a sin,” offering further insight into his personal belief system, which he refers to as the “religion of love.”
The comment, which he originally posted on X (formerly Twitter), triggered intense backlash from both Christian and Muslim audiences, many of whom cited religious texts to counter his stance.
In a recent appearance on Arise TV, Falz addressed the uproar, clarifying that his statement was not rooted in either Christianity or Islam, but based on his own philosophical outlook.
“I think people would read the tweet and just assume that I meant according to Christianity. I wasn’t really speaking from that perspective,” he explained.
Falz elaborated that, within the framework of his belief system, there’s nothing inherently wrong with consensual intimacy between unmarried adults.
“Under that religion, I don’t think fornication is a sin. Because I looked at it, I strictly addressed the issue: Why are we not allowed to engage in this premarital intercourse? What is the issue? Who does it offend? These are not married people. These are two unmarried people. Willingly. Consensually. Personally, I don’t think there is a problem there,” he said.
In a bold declaration, Falz also revealed that he no longer identifies with the Christian faith.
“I’m no longer a Christian. I practice religion of love,” he added.
The interview has sparked even more online discussions, with fans and critics debating the implications of his views on faith, morality, and personal freedom.
