Popular Nigerian rapper and actor, Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has shared some unconventional relationship advice, urging singles to delay marriage until they reach their 30s. Speaking on a recent episode of The BTS Reality podcast, the 35-year-old artist argued that the twenties are a critical phase for self-discovery, which should not be rushed through early marital commitments.
According to Falz, many young adults lack the necessary mental, emotional, and financial maturity required to navigate a successful marriage in their twenties. Instead, he believes this period should be dedicated to exploring life, learning from mistakes, and building a solid personal foundation.
The Importance of Self-Discovery in Your 20s
Falz explained that the decade between 20 and 30 serves as a learning curve where people are still figuring out who they are and what they want out of life. Rushing into marriage during this developmental stage, he warns, can hinder personal growth.
“Getting married in your 30s is the best,” Falz stated during the podcast. “Don’t let anyone pressure you into getting married before 30. By your 30s, you have gained more life experiences. In your 20s, you are still figuring yourself out. Your 20s are for learning, growing, and enjoying life.”
Resisting Societal and Peer Pressure
The rapper also addressed the heavy societal expectations placed on young Africans to marry early. He cautioned his fans and followers against letting external voices dictate their life timelines, emphasizing that a marriage built on peer pressure is often fragile.
He advised that by the time individuals reach their 30s, they are much better positioned to synthesize their life experiences and make rational, long-term decisions about their partners and careers. “In your 30s, you combine all the knowledge and try to direct your life. So, it is better to wait till your 30s before getting married,” he added.
