The Nigerian woman, Mrs. Igiebor, who gained widespread attention on Sunday, August 11, 2023, after being caught on video tearing her husband’s passport at Lagos airport, has finally spoken out.
In a TikTok video, she revealed that her husband has been causing her significant distress in Italy, where they reside, which has taken a toll on her health. She explained that she tore his passport to prevent him from leaving Nigeria.
”I am coming across a lot of comments, people insulting me, even my fellow gender who do not understand. I am not supposed to do what I did. I know that is where so many people got me. Why will I tear his passport? It is against Nigerian law. I know that. To the Nigerian Immigration, I am very sorry. I did it for my husband not to go back because I have seen so many things. I have gone through pain, pain that cause me heartache today, pain that gives me headache at the middle of my head. You do not know what I am going through.”
The Nigerian Immigration Service has launched an investigation into the incident, stating that if she is found guilty, she will face the appropriate legal consequences.
However, there are speculations that the couple staged the incident to gain attention on social media.
