Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has confidently stated that President Bola Tinubu is likely to emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
This statement was made during an interview that surfaced in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @Imranmuhdz. In the interview, Wike was asked about his thoughts on the current political environment and the next general election.
When questioned about the possibility of running for president if the ticket is zoned to the South, Wike firmly declined, stating he has no intention of contesting against President Tinubu, whom he currently serves under.
“I won’t contest. Why should I run against someone I’m working with?” Wike said.
When the journalist pressed further, asking if that meant he supports Tinubu’s second-term bid, Wike responded rhetorically, “Who else would win?”—suggesting Tinubu has no viable challengers.
The clip has sparked widespread reactions online, with users weighing in on Wike’s stance and his influence in the political arena.
Some reactions include:
- @alege_miebaka: “You believe Wike? Lol. He’ll eventually outmaneuver the APC. They’re scared of him—that’s why he got the ministerial appointment. Let APC dump him before 2027 and see if they’ll win. Wike might still run in 2027 or 2031.”
- @donpanacio: “Despite being politically stubborn, Wike is the most effective FCT Minister since 1999. Tinubu wouldn’t assign such a key position to someone mediocre.”
- @SymplysadeeQ: “Wike isn’t happy seeing people like Abiye Sekibo and Celestine Omehia close to Fubara.”
- @OyedemiBabs: “This lady got answers from Wike that most journalists haven’t been able to.”
- @esteemkuti: “I only dislike Wike’s treatment of civil servants. Otherwise, he’s a true patriot.”
- @mardortii: “Fubara is clearly Wike’s political protégé. Something must be brewing between them again.”
- @zobiafri: “You can’t help but admire Wike. He’s deeply rooted in politics and has built a strong structure over the years.”

I will not contest again. I cannot contest against someone (Tinubu) whom I work with. Who will win (2027)except him?
That boy (Fubara) is my boy, my son. How can I fight a battle with him? The people I am fighting are those who want to steal what they haven't worked for.
