The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Deputy Director in charge of Voters Education and Publicity, Nick Dazang at a one-day workshop for newsmen in Kaduna said that loss of data from some of the commission’s machines is the reason why the likes of the Sultan of Sokoto, Governor Fashola of Lagos and others are yet to obtain their PVCs.
He said, “the initial lost of data led to loss of finger prints and that was why the Sultan of Sokoto, Governor Fashola of Lagos and others could not get their PVCs. Attitude of some INEC staff led to loss of the data.”
“What I know is that those whose data were lost and those who did the Continuous Voter Registration, their cards are now ready,” Dazang added.
The Sultan of Sokoto had told President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, January 19, during a visit by the latter to the state, thathe might be unable to vote because he does not have a PVC.
Fashola made a similar declaration on Thursday, January 22, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally in Lagos.
He, however, stated that despite the challenge encountered by INEC, the commission has achieved 65 percent distribution of PVC nationwide and expressed optimism that the percentage of PVC distribution would increase substantially before the election.
