The West African Examinations Council has officially announced the appointment of Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office. The 56-year-old administrative expert succeeds Dr. Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dr. Dangut has since stepped into a higher role, assuming office as the global Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.
Before taking on his new role, Kum served as the Deputy Registrar in the Head of Nigeria National Office division and was the council’s Senior Deputy Registrar for Test Administration until the end of August.
A Legacy of Innovation and Technological Advancement
In a statement issued on Sunday, Moyosola Adesina, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC Nigeria, described Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator, and executive. Since joining the council on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II, Kum has consistently driven administrative and technological reforms.

Furthermore, Kum led the seamless implementation of Achievement Tests using Computer-Based Examination platforms and successfully established the Gusau branch as a key Custodial Centre.
Academic Background and Diverse Leadership Experience
Hailing from Plateau State, Kum holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria. He is currently advancing his academic qualifications by pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the same institution.
