Two people have been confirmed dead, and six others injured after a collapsed building in the Lekki area of Lagos State. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the under-construction two-storey building collapsed, trapping several people believed to be workers at the site.
According to PUNCH Metro, a male adult, whose identity has not yet been revealed, lost his life, while three others were injured. The spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Shakiru Amodu, confirmed that a search and rescue operation was underway at the time of the collapse.
In an update released by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), it was confirmed that the body of a 15-year-old teenager was recovered, bringing the total number of fatalities to two.
Oke-Osanyintolu reported that the bodies of the victims were handed over to health officials for further processing, while the six injured individuals were treated by LASEMA’s medical team.
The building has since been completely demolished using heavy-duty equipment provided by the agency.
