Following our earlier report, that soldiers vandalized BRT buses in the Palmgroove, Lagos on Friday, to protest injuries sustained by their colleague hit by a BRT bus, details have now emergerd that the soldiers razed five BRT buses.
According to an eyewitness, the injured soldier was riding a motorcycle at about 8:35am when he was hit by the BRT driver. He said all efforts by the driver of the vehicle, the passengers and passersby to placate the soldier was futile, as he insisted on phoning his colleagues, who stormed the scene to wreak havoc on any available BRT vehicle and beat up BRT workers around the area.
At least 5 BRT buses conveying passengers as at the time of the incident were torched by the angry soldiers. The soldiers ordered the passengers out, as they descended on the vehicles.
Many abandoned their vehicles to run for cover, leading to a serious traffic that had stretched to Ojota as at the time of filing this report. Hordes of road users were forced to trek to their destinations, while pedestrians had to raise their hands to avoid the wrath of the military men.
“I initially thought soldiers had taken over until I moved closer to the place where they were setting a BRT ablaze,” a commuter said .
“How can they behave in such manner in this era? Will this action reverse what happened to the soldier? As disciplined personnel, aren’t their grievances ought to be channelled in the appropriate manner?” Individuals who tried to take pictures were assaulted and their phones smashed. Normalcy had not returned to the area as of the time of filing this report
