The Italian Serie A has officially postponed all football matches scheduled for Easter Monday after the passing of Pope Francis at the age of 88. The league’s governing body announced the decision as the country enters a period of national mourning.
The suspension affects games across multiple divisions — Serie A, B, C, and the Primavera youth league — in a show of respect.
Among the postponed fixtures are key Serie A matches: Torino vs Udinese, Cagliari vs Fiorentina, Genoa vs Lazio, and Parma vs Juventus, all part of Matchday 33.
The Italian Football Federation has not yet released a revised schedule for the affected games. However, they have confirmed that all matches must be concluded before the final matchday of the season, set for May 25, 2025.
Before the announcement, six Serie A fixtures had already taken place over the Easter weekend, including Bologna’s 1-0 triumph over Inter and Atalanta’s close win against AC Milan.
As the league approaches its decisive phase, organizers now face the challenge of rearranging matches in an already tight calendar.
