At a plenary session of the Nigeria Senate on Thursday, the Senate President David Mark informed members that they would screen, Justice Mahmud Mohammed who has been nominated as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Goodluck Jonathan next Tuesday.
The substantive Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, will retire on November 20.
President Goodluck Jonathan in a letter dated November 10, nominated Mahmud as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria pending Senate’s screening and confirmation, based on the recommendation of the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC)
The letter indicated that the nomination was in line with section 231 sub-section (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
