Nigerian military personnel are on the cusp of receiving a significant boost to their compensation packages, with President Bola Tinubu expected to announce an appreciable salary increment for the Armed Forces. This eagerly anticipated development was revealed by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), underscoring the Federal Government’s profound dedication to improving the welfare of the nation’s gallant defenders.

A Renewed Commitment to Troop Welfare

In a statement issued by his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Minister Musa highlighted that the imminent salary review is a core component of President Tinubu’s sustained agenda to enhance the living conditions and overall morale of military personnel. This move is seen as a crucial step in recognizing the immense sacrifices made daily by the men and women in uniform who safeguard Nigeria’s peace and security.

Building on a Foundation of Support

General Musa also provided valuable context, recalling his previous successful advocacy for improved military remuneration. He noted how, during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, military salaries saw a substantial increase from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000. This past achievement sets a strong precedent for the current administration’s proactive measures.

“I want to state here that a few weeks ago, I mentioned that soldiers are now receiving N100,000. When I was Chief of Defence Staff, soldiers were receiving N49,000. About two years ago, I pushed for an increase to N100,000, and that was achieved. We are, however, making further efforts to increase it again,” the Minister affirmed. He stressed that active steps and strategic planning are currently underway to finalize an even more comprehensive and rewarding compensation package for the troops, ensuring their dedication is met with appropriate recognition and support.

Empowering Our Defenders for a Secure Nation

This forthcoming salary enhancement is expected to significantly uplift the morale of the Nigerian Armed Forces, fostering greater dedication and commitment to their critical duties. Improved financial security not only directly benefits the personnel but also positively impacts their families, reinforcing the nation’s appreciation for their selfless service. By valuing and caring for those who protect Nigeria, the government aims to further strengthen national defense capabilities and ensure a more secure future for all.
