On Tuesday night, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a nationwide address, Tinubu expressed deep concern over the ongoing political crisis in the state, accusing Governor Siminilayi Fubara of ordering the demolition of the State House of Assembly building.
After assessing the situation, the president announced that the state of emergency would take effect from March 18.
This declaration follows a high-level meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, where Tinubu convened with his service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police.
The meeting, which began around 3 PM, was attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
