Professor Farooq Kperogi, a well-known columnist, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take action on the mass protests against the rising cost of living. Kperogi cautioned that if these issues are not resolved, the entire country could soon be engulfed in mass protests. He advised Tinubu to avoid repeating the mistakes of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
Kperogi, who is a media scholar and newspaper columnist, warned President Tinubu that the unnatural increase in prices is threatening the social fabric of Nigeria. He pointed out the recent protests in Niger, Kano, and Osun states as warning signs for Tinubu’s administration.
In his latest column, Kperogi urged Tinubu to provide good and compassionate governance as the only way to fortify against the danger of a nationwide convulsion. He also noted that the release of thousands of metric tons of grains is a good start, but it will only delay the inevitable if Tinubu’s punishingly heartless neoliberal economic policies remain unchanged.
It has been reported that thousands of Nigerians in Minna protested against severe hunger and the rising cost of living. The people of Kano, Plateau, and Kogi states have also staged similar protests.
The increasing cost of living prompted a group of youths to peacefully protest along MDS Road in Osogbo, the Osun state capital. The youth expressed their frustration with the harsh economy by singing songs and carrying placards.
