The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its decision to field former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
During an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television program, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, emphasized that the LP is fully prepared to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election.
“Tinubu won’t have an easy ride in 2027. We are returning with Peter Obi to prove our seriousness,” Arabambi declared.
Addressing recent developments, he dismissed the impact of actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation from the party, describing it as a positive outcome.
Arabambi criticized Okonkwo’s loyalty, alleging that he was secretly supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu.
“We wish Kenneth Okonkwo well. His exit is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should stop commenting on Labour Party matters,” Arabambi remarked.
He also refuted rumors of internal discord within the LP, asserting that the party remains stable and united.
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. The idea that LP is collapsing is nothing but the imagination of our detractors,” he added.
Peter Obi, who represented the LP in the 2023 presidential election and placed third behind Atiku Abubakar (PDP) and Bola Tinubu (APC), remains the party’s choice for 2027. Despite his 2023 defeat, the LP is confident that Obi will return stronger in the next election.
