President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for a ₦70,000 minimum wage for workers and has committed to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years.
This information was conveyed by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser for Information and Strategy, in a statement released on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

President Tinubu shared these decisions during a meeting with leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.
The statement mentioned, “President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers and promised to review the national minimum wage law every three years.”
Moreover, President Tinubu pledged to explore options to support the private sector and regional governments in implementing the minimum wage. This meeting marked the second time in seven days that the president and labour leaders convened in Abuja.
Onanuga highlighted that the labour leaders commended the president for his “paternal gesture.”
Additionally, Tinubu promised to utilize his discretionary powers to address the appeals of university unions seeking unpaid salaries for four months.
