Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso has received a formal invitation from Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff as a special guest to attend the opening ceremony of the 2014 FIFA world Cup in Brazil.
The official invitation was delivered by Carlos Lazary Teixeira, Brazilian Ambassador to Peru.
While speaking to Andina news agency, Carlos said: “The Brazilian president has invited all his counterparts of the region, including the Peruvian leader Ollanta Humala, to the inauguration of the World Cup in Sao Paulo.”
Speaking further, he said Peruvians willing to attend the biggest sporting event in the world may travel by car through the Transoceanic highway to the city of Cuiabá. Cuiaba is a city that will be hosting four group matches at the World Cup.
The last time Peru featured at the World Cup was one hosted in Spain in 1982. This year’s World Cup is starting on June 12 to July 13.
