In Newark, New Jersey, the United States of America, two police officers were shot during a confrontation with a shooter firing from a rooftop.

According to reports, the gunman opened fire on police with a rifle around 2.20 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to reports, the shooting occurred near the intersection of Van Velsor Place and Chancellor Avenue in Weequahic, Newark.

Despite the presence of FBI agents, ATF agents, and US Marshals, the suspect could not be apprehended at the scene, according to a Fox5NY reporter on the scene.

Governor Phil Murphy also confirmed this incident on Twitter, assuring that his government would continue to support law enforcement agents to ensure dwellers of the state are safe.

A tweet from Governor Phil Murphy said: “I am aware of and closely monitoring an unfolding situation in Newark. I am in touch with local authorities and the State is providing resources as requested. We will continue to support local law enforcement and ensure that all residents are safe.”
