The brother of Nigerian social media figure VeryDarkMan has broken his silence following the influencer’s arrest, describing a heartbreaking moment when their mother broke down in tears at a GTBank branch.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), he recounted how their mother became visibly distraught after police officers allegedly stormed the bank and arrested VeryDarkMan.
This comes after earlier reports revealed that VeryDarkMan was arrested in Abuja, allegedly on GTBank’s orders, after he and his mother went to protest unauthorized deductions from her account. Despite not owing any loans, the bank had been withdrawing money, prompting them to seek answers.
According to witnesses, while their complaint was being addressed by bank staff, police operatives suddenly showed up and arrested him on the spot.
His brother shared, “My mum called me in tears, saying policemen came and arrested my brother. For what? Is it now a crime to speak up for Nigerians when others remain silent?”
At the time of reporting, neither GTBank nor the Nigerian Police Force has issued a public statement. There are also speculations about the involvement of the EFCC, though the agency has not confirmed or denied any role.
