The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a notorious cultist, Adekunle Adebanjo, also known as “Kunle Polly,” for his alleged involvement in the murder of a rival gang member in Ijebu Ode.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, made this known in a statement on Saturday, August 17, 2024. According to the statement, a concerned citizen alerted the Igbeba Divisional Police Station on August 12, reporting a violent clash between rival cult groups. During the altercation, the victim, identified as ‘Mosquito,’ was shot, attacked with a machete, and had his left hand severed, which was taken away by the assailants.
SP Odutola disclosed that Adebanjo, who is suspected to be one of those responsible for Mosquito’s death, was arrested in his hideout in Isiwo Ijebu at 12:03 a.m. on August 17, 2024. The arrest was made possible thanks to credible information provided by the public, which enabled the police to track down the suspects.
Upon receiving the tip-off, a team of detectives swiftly mobilized and raided the location, leading to the arrest of Adebanjo, aged 34. During questioning, he confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity. A subsequent search of his residence led to the discovery of a Beretta pistol with six rounds of live ammunition, two UTC axes, and charms.
The investigation is ongoing to uncover the pattern of severing victims’ left hands and to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene.
SP Odutola confirmed that the suspect is currently undergoing preliminary investigation at the Igbeba Division in Ijebu-Ode. Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has reassured residents that the days of cult activities in Isiwo Ijebu are over and vowed that all those involved in these criminal activities would face justice.
