Taofeek Sulaiman, 40, is accused of defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter and blaming the incident on the devil.
Sulaimon was apprehended Monday by Ogun State Police Command officers after his wife, the victim’s mother, filed a complaint at Owode Yewa divisional police headquarters.
The victim’s mother, who stated that she married Sulaimon after the victim’s father died, told police that her daughter informed her that her husband “has been having sex with her since the 14th of October 2022.”
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman for the Ogun State police, the woman stated that “the suspect has been threatening to kill her if she reported the incident to anyone.”
Following the report, Oyeyemi stated that the DPO of the Owode Yewa division, CSP
Muhammed Baba dispatched his detectives to the scene where the man was apprehended.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime but blamed it all on the devil’s handiwork,” Oyeyemi said.
While revealing that the minor was taken to Idiroko General Hospital for medical attention, Oyeyemi also stated that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the case be transferred to the State CIID’s Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labour unit for further investigation.
