The former Inter Milan forward was happy after ending his barren run in recent games. The goal was possible courtesy of an assist from Clint Dempsey.
“As a striker I’m happy I scored, but the important thing is the team, trying to create, trying to pass the ball, create and make assists — we worked hard, me and Dempsey. He got me the ball. We’re doing well together. We just have to continue like this, because this season is so long. The fact is we’re doing well and we’ll keep going,” Martins said.
“I’m glad to score. I’m glad that we won as well. We’ve been working hard, so I think we deserved it.
“We just do our thing. When we concede goals, we just keep going until the end. That’s what we’re doing. It happens that we won again, so we’re happy.”
Martins coach Sigi Schmid also showered praise on his Nigeria striker.
“It is good that ‘Oba’ scored a goal, he worked hard in the game,” he said.
