Anders Breivik, a convicted murderer who slaughtered 77 people in a politically motivated bombing and shooting spree has been awarded a place at university to study political science at the University of Oslo.
Breivik snuffed out lives in out of more than 6 dozen persons when he set off a bomb in central Oslo and then travelled to a nearby island where he gunned down children at a youth camp in 2011.
He was sentenced to 21 years in jail in 2012 for the massacre which he said he carried out to stop the ‘Islamisation of Norway’.
Norway has a rehabilitation-focused justice system which is aimed at helping inmates prepare for life on the outside- this includes higher education.
Hence, Breivik has been studying course modules since applying to the University of Oslo in 2013.
The university has now confirmed he will now be taught as a full student.
However he will have no contact with staff or students and will complete his studies from his jail cell.
