Manchester United have reportedly initiated discussions with Napoli over a potential summer transfer for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, according to Italian media outlets.
While United are also pursuing Liam Delap of Ipswich Town — who is available due to a £30 million relegation release clause — the 22-year-old is believed to favor a move to Chelsea instead.
With other targets still under consideration, United are also eyeing Viktor Gyokeres, whom manager Ruben Amorim previously coached at Sporting CP. However, the Red Devils face stiff competition from Arsenal, and Sporting are said to demand a fee of €80 million (£67m) for the Swedish striker.
According to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, United have intensified efforts to land Osimhen, with club director of football negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, recently traveling to Italy. Hargreaves is reported to have held talks last weekend in Naples with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Giovanni Manna.
Napoli, now the reigning Serie A champions, are reportedly seeking a swap deal involving Rasmus Højlund and €40 million (£33.6m) for Osimhen.
The striker’s contract includes a €75 million (£63m) release clause that applies exclusively to clubs outside Italy. Notably, Napoli and Manchester United already maintain a working relationship following the £21 million transfer of Scott McTominay last year.
Osimhen, 26, just completed a prolific loan spell at Galatasaray, where he netted 36 goals in 40 appearances, helping the club secure both the Turkish league and cup titles.
Last summer, he came close to joining Chelsea, and former Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel, who was involved in those negotiations, recently claimed the striker still has a strong desire to play at Stamford Bridge.
Additionally, interest from the Saudi Pro League remains. Reports from Saudi Arabia last week suggested that Osimhen has agreed to a three-year deal with Al-Hilal, one of the clubs set to feature in the upcoming Club World Cup.
