Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, has strongly criticized politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling them as self-serving individuals with no real ideological commitment.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Monday, Okonkwo was responding to a recent defection rally held by the APC in Delta State, where several prominent figures switched party loyalty.
Using a striking metaphor, he stated:
“That palm wine, if you don’t refrigerate it, can change taste more than 20 times in a day… These are politicians that are unstable like water. Palmwine politicians are individuals who constantly shift allegiances and ideologies for personal gain.”
Okonkwo also alleged that some of those who defected have questionable reputations, pointing out that many face serious allegations of corruption.
“On that podium, you saw men convicted by the Supreme Court for bribery and corruption in dollars in the name of integrity. Their surnames are now classified as dollar,” he remarked.
The former actor did not hold back, branding the event as a gathering of dubious figures, describing it as “a subset of professional criminals made up of suspects, accused, and convicts.”
