The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has appointed Anietie Iniedu as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force. The strategic appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the outgoing force spokesman, Anthony Placid.
A Profile of the New Police Image-Maker
Anietie Iniedu, a native of the Etinan Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, is described as a highly seasoned officer with a diverse background in public communication, tactical policing, intelligence gathering, and administrative management. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.
To bolster his policing capabilities, Iniedu has completed several advanced professional courses. His training spans critical areas such as:
- Strategic communication and public relations
- Investigative interviewing and crime scene management
- Human rights-based policing frameworks
- Intelligence analysis and operational coordination
Iniedu succeeds Anthony Placid, who was appointed to the position in March 2026.
Proven Track Record in Accountability and Operations
Before his latest appointment, Iniedu served as the Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in overseeing public complaints and implementing measures aimed at bolstering transparency and public trust in the country’s primary law enforcement agency.
His previous roles within the Nigeria Police Force include serving as the Public Relations Officer for the Police College of Information Technology in Kobape, Ogun State. He also served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he supervised the distribution of nationwide security information.
Additionally, Iniedu has held operational positions across various states, including:
- Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters
- Second-in-Command, 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa
- Area Crime Officer, Umuahia Area Command, Abia State
- Operations Officer, Maisandari Division, Yobe State Command

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, expressed strong confidence in Iniedu’s capability to lead the Force Public Relations Department. According to the IGP, Iniedu’s deep expertise and communication background will enhance the police force’s strategic messaging and support ongoing internal reforms aimed at building stronger community relationships.
