A Nigerian influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has come under fire from an Igbo businessman, Tochukwu Harrison Mmaduboallor, who accused him of jeopardizing the livelihood of Igbo traders in China by revealing their confidential supplier connections.
Allegations of Exposing Business Secrets
In a viral video, Tochukwu claimed that VDM’s recent content from China exposed sensitive trade information—specifically the suppliers many Igbo traders rely on for their businesses.
According to him, secrecy is a key factor in successful trading, and disclosing supplier details to customers could drastically reduce profit margins.
“VDM will destroy the businesses of many Igbo youths in China under the guise of helping Nigerians import goods directly. Business thrives on secrecy no real businessman exposes his suppliers to his customers,” Tochukwu said.
He also pointed out the huge sacrifices Igbo traders make—spending millions on travel, enduring tough conditions, and working tirelessly to sustain their businesses abroad.
Risk to Igbo Economic Power
Tochukwu warned that VDM’s approach could weaken the Igbo community’s dominance in trade between Nigeria and China.
While VDM’s aim might be to create transparency and help Nigerians access cheaper goods, Tochukwu argued that the move could disrupt long-standing trade systems built on confidential supplier relationships.
He stressed that many Igbo traders face harsh realities in China, sometimes even sleeping outdoors, and that their survival depends heavily on maintaining secrecy in their business dealings.
Fear of Losing Market Advantage
Tochukwu concluded by emphasizing that Igbo businessmen play a leading role in Nigeria’s trade with China. He fears that connecting Nigerian buyers directly to Chinese manufacturers could cut off the middlemen—largely Igbo traders and dismantle the business model that has supported their economic success for years.
