The suspect was caught with human body parts in Abeokuta, the Capital of Ogun State.
A man, Yemi Odun, was apprehended with human body parts including bones at Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital on Tuesday.
Mr. Odun, 24, was arrested by members of a vigilante group, Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, following a tip-off by residents of the community where the suspect lives. The residents thought his movements’ suspicious and dubious, hence alerted the OPC.
The suspect resides in an abandoned storey building located in Aro, outskirts of Abeokuta. Mr. Odun and members of his gang, now on the run, allegedly carry out their operations disguised as mad men, the OPC said.
This, the vigilante group held, might be the reason the gang decided to have their hideout at an abandoned building which is adjacent to the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital.
When PREMIUM TIMES visited the Ogbe unit of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, in Abeokuta, the suspect was found with exhibits comprising fresh and dried bones.
Members of the vigilante group said they had contacted security agents in the state and will hand over the suspect to them.
“We are equally making arrangement to transfer him to the security agents. As you can see various types of human parts found with him. Many innocent victims might have fallen into the gang’s trap,” Wahab Moruf, the state treasurer of OPC, said.
Mr. Moruf said the suspect tried to run away when men of the OPC came to arrest him.
