The University of Cape Coast (UCC) community and music lovers across Ghana have been plunged into deep mourning following the passing of talented student and singer, Enoch Eshun, widely known as Enochay. The inspiring young man, who touched the hearts of many with his remarkable resilience, died on Friday, June 26, 2026.
Enochay rose to national prominence after sharing his raw, emotional story of living with a rare, debilitating spinal condition that left him unable to sit or bend. For over five years, the young singer had to spend his entire day either standing or lying down, a challenge that threatened both his academic dreams and his daily existence.
A Viral Story of Hope and Generosity
Enochay first captured the public’s attention during an emotional interview with renowned Ghanaian blogger Zion Felix. At the time, the 19-year-old opened up about the immense physical and financial toll of his condition. Navigating the UCC campus was a monumental challenge, as he could not use standard public transport and relied heavily on private vehicles to attend his lectures.
Moved by his unwavering spirit and dedication to his education, prominent businessman Yaw Amponsah Marfo, popularly known as Agya Wiase, stepped in to help. In a heartwarming gesture that moved the nation, Agya Wiase gifted Enochay a brand-new Hyundai Tucson alongside a cash donation of GH₵20,000 (approximately N3 million) to ease his mobility challenges and fund his education.
Enochay had described the massive intervention as “life-changing,” while his mother expressed profound gratitude for the immense relief it brought to their family.
The Sudden Loss and Tributes
Tragically, just a year after receiving the life-altering donation, Enochay’s journey was cut short. Blogger Zion Felix confirmed the devastating news of his demise after speaking with the singer’s mother. While an official cause of death has not been released, it is widely believed to be connected to the chronic health condition he had fought bravely for years.
Since the news broke, social media has been flooded with tributes from classmates, fans, and well-wishers who remember him not just for his medical struggles, but for his exceptional musical talent and infectious optimism. He remains a lasting symbol of determination, showing that physical limitations could not dim his passion for education and music.
