Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has confirmed the deaths of 60 bandits who attacked Mansur Village in the Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The attack, which happened two weeks ago, also resulted in the loss of 21 lives, including 13 vigilantes and 10 civilians.
During a condolence visit to the affected community on Thursday, Governor Mohammed shared that the fierce gun battle led to significant losses on both sides, highlighting the bravery of local security forces and vigilantes despite being outgunned.
The governor extended his condolences on behalf of the federal government, assuring affected communities of forthcoming assistance.
He announced that families of the fallen vigilantes will receive ₦5 million each, while families of the civilians will be given ₦3 million. An additional ₦20 million will support logistics for ongoing vigilante efforts in the region.
Governor Mohammed also disclosed plans to recruit more than 2,100 vigilantes statewide by year’s end, beginning with 300 to 500 from the most impacted areas.
