Fenerbahçe have officially submitted a complaint to the Turkish Football Federation regarding the eligibility of Victor Osimhen to play in the upcoming derby against Galatasaray.
According to reports from Turkish media, Fenerbahçe prepared a technical file over several days before presenting it to the federation. The club is said to have raised concerns that the protective equipment worn by Osimhen after a recent injury could create a safety risk for opposing players during physical challenges.
The complaint reportedly focuses on protective gear being worn on the arm, along with other body protection. Fenerbahçe believe some of the materials used may not fully align with safety regulations, despite current guidelines from the International Football Association Board regarding approved on-field equipment.
Sources close to Osimhen have dismissed the concerns, insisting the gear complies with international safety standards. Reports state that the equipment uses a dual-layer structure, combining a firm inner frame with a softer outer covering designed to reduce impact.
They also noted that similar protective gear has been commonly used by players returning from injuries without previous objections. According to those close to the striker, the purpose is to help him return safely while reducing the chance of aggravating the injury.
The dispute adds extra tension ahead of one of the biggest matches in Turkish football. Osimhen remains a crucial attacking figure for Galatasaray, and his participation could play a major role in the outcome.
The Turkish Football Federation has not yet delivered an official ruling, with the issue now focused on safety interpretations and whether the medical equipment meets competition standards.
