Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and a former advisor to Donald Trump, expressed regret on Wednesday over some of his recent remarks aimed at the former U.S. president, following a very public clash between the two last week.
Taking to his social media platform, X, Musk posted:
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
His apology comes just days after Trump warned Musk of “serious consequences” should he attempt to penalize Republican lawmakers who support a contentious spending bill currently under consideration in Congress.
The fallout between Musk and Trump—largely unfolding on social media—was sparked by Musk’s sharp criticism of Trump’s praised “big, beautiful” spending bill. Some opponents of the bill had urged Musk, a major financial backer of the Republican Party during the last presidential race, to fund primary challengers against Republicans who back the legislation.
In response, Trump lashed out in an NBC News interview, calling Musk “disrespectful” and warning, “He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” though he didn’t elaborate on what those consequences would be.
