Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has broken her silence following intense online criticism over a social media post shared during a period of collective mourning in the Yoruba film industry. The actress faced backlash after a promotional video for her upcoming movie was published shortly after news broke of the passing of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo.

On Monday, fans and colleagues of the late film icon were thrown into grief, with many taking to social media to pay their respects. However, a post on Amusa’s page promoting her new project sparked outrage among some users, who accused her of being insensitive and lacking empathy during a difficult time for the industry.

Reacting swiftly to the criticism, the actress released a video clarifying the situation. Amusa explained that the publication of the video was not a deliberate act of disrespect but the result of an automated scheduling tool set up long before she received the news of the veteran actor’s demise.

Understanding the Automated Scheduling Misstep

Addressing her critics, Amusa explained that by the time she noticed the post, it had already generated significant traffic. She expressed surprise at the level of hostility and the harsh comments directed at her, explaining that she initially intended to take the post down before realizing how much traction it had gained.

“I came to see which post it was, then I saw which one it was. Wanting to take it off, I realized that it had generated hundred thousands of comments and all that,” she stated. “Seeing some of the comments, the insults, people cursing on me over a post that had been scheduled even long before we got the news of uncle Ogogo.”

The incident highlights the potential pitfalls of pre-scheduled social media content for public figures during sudden national or industry-wide tragedies. While some fans continue to criticize the actress, others have defended her, noting that automated digital marketing is a standard practice in the entertainment sector and that the timing was an unfortunate coincidence.
