In a decisive move to disrupt the logistics and financial pipelines of bandits and kidnappers, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has signed a sweeping Executive Order targeting key informal business operations. The new directive places an immediate ban on the sale of petroleum products in jerrycans and orders the closure of Point of Sale (POS) terminals across vulnerable areas.

Targeting Bandit Logistics and Financial Networks

The restrictions were announced on Tuesday in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed. The decision followed an emergency security meeting attended by security agencies, traditional rulers, and other vital stakeholders. According to state officials, intelligence reports indicated that bandits operating from remote forest hideouts rely heavily on local collaborators purchasing fuel in jerrycans to power their vehicles and sustain their criminal campaigns.

Furthermore, POS terminals have reportedly been exploited by criminal syndicates to facilitate illicit financial transactions, including the collection and laundering of ransom payments. By shutting down these informal financial access points, the state government aims to paralyze the economic infrastructure that sustains banditry in the region.

Motorcycle Bans and Strict Enforcement

In addition to the commerce restrictions, the Executive Order imposes a total ban on the use of motorcycles in the Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. Bandits frequently deploy motorcycles to launch rapid attacks on vulnerable communities and quickly evade security forces. Restricting their mobility is expected to give security operatives a significant tactical advantage.

Governor Radda emphasized that the primary responsibility of his administration remains the protection of lives and property. He warned that violators of the new Executive Order will face severe legal consequences, declaring that the state will tolerate zero compromise on public safety.

A Call for Public Cooperation

The Katsina State Government has urged residents to comply fully with the temporary measures, acknowledging the economic inconveniences but stressing the long-term benefits of restoring peace. Governor Radda called on citizens to remain vigilant and support ongoing security operations by providing timely, credible information to law enforcement agencies.
