CHIEF Samuel Igbayilola Adegbite is dead. He reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday at a Lagos hospital.

Adegbite, an accomplished industrialist, lawyer and distinguished banker, turned 73 in January.

Chief (Dr.) S.I. Adegbite who was until his death  founder and Chairman Oasis Group started his banking career at then Standard Bank of West Africa (now First Bank) and later joined National Bank of Nigeria. He served at NAL Merchant Bank from 1971 to 1974, where he served the position of a Bank Manager. He is a trained lawyer and seasoned banker. Mr. Adegbite has over three decades of banking experience. He serves as the Chairman of Oasis Group and Gateway bank PLC. He has been a Non-Executive Vice Chairman of WEMA Bank PLC since July 1998. He serves as an Executive Vice Chairman of NBM Bank Limited. He has been an Executive Director of WEMA Bank PLC since January 1983. He served as a Director of Intercontinental Bank PLC. He served as a Director of Unilever Nigeria Plc. He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Bankers, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and Nigerian Institute of Management. Mr. Adegbite attended University of London, where he bagged an LLB (Hons.) degree.
