Renowned Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has broken his silence following reports that Burkina Faso’s leader, Ibrahim Traoré, rejected his offer to host a free concert in the West African country.
The artist had recently expressed interest in staging a free show for the people of Burkina Faso, a gesture that was initially met with mixed reactions. However, President Traoré reportedly turned down the proposal, stating that the country did not need distractions at the moment.
Following the news, Burna Boy faced backlash and ridicule from some critics on social media. In response, the Grammy-winning star took to his platform to express his frustration with the negative comments.
He wrote:
“I said I wanted to do a free concert in Burkina Faso and while many people responded positively, I was shocked at the amount of negativity from some individuals.”
“Let me be clear — if all you’ve ever contributed to the world is typing nonsense online or ranting in front of your ring light and phone, you have no right to even speak my name.”
“You have no authority to tell me what I can or can’t do for Africa — a continent I call home — especially if no one in your family history has ever done anything meaningful for Africa or the world at large.”
“I gain nothing from anyone, and I don’t owe anyone anything. Still, I continue to do what I do out of purpose and principle. My integrity is not in question. So, to those who said anything negative — burn in hell.”
Burna Boy’s remarks sparked further reactions online, with fans and followers divided over his strong response.
