Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised the stakes in the Nigerian music industry by declaring himself the ultimate hitmaker. To back up his bold assertion, the “Unavailable” singer has put a staggering $1 million (approximately N1 billion) on the line, challenging any colleague to a live “hit-for-hit” musical battle.

Davido laid down the gauntlet during a recent interactive livestream session with popular streamer Davrel. Expressing absolute confidence in his extensive discography, the singer made it clear that he is ready to defend his crown against any Nigerian musician brave enough to step up to the plate.

A Legacy of Chart-Topping Hits

Davido’s supreme confidence is anchored on over a decade of consistent dominance at the forefront of the African music scene. Since his breakout in the early 2010s, the billionaire heir and music executive has churned out numerous anthems that have shaped the sound of modern Afrobeats. His catalog comfortably rivals those of his biggest peers, such as Wizkid, Olamide, Burna Boy, Runtown, and Tekno.

Despite the massive buzz generated by his multi-million Naira challenge, none of his heavyweight contemporaries have publicly accepted the invitation. A “hit-for-hit” faceoff of this scale would require an immense library of widely recognized anthems, making the list of potential challengers incredibly short.

Echoes of Past Afrobeats Showdowns

This is not the first time a top-tier Nigerian musician has dared peers to a musical showdown. During the global COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Grammy-winner Burna Boy issued a similar open challenge to his colleagues. At the time, only former Mavin Records singer Reekado Banks stepped forward to accept. However, the battle never materialized after Burna Boy publicly dismissed Banks, stating he did not view him as a “worthy challenger.”

As fans eagerly watch to see if any music icon will take Davido up on his $1 million bet, the challenge has reignited fierce debates across social media platforms regarding who truly holds the most potent catalog in Afrobeats history.
