Bayelsa State House of Assembly, yesterday, expressed concern over the delay in the presentation of the Child Rights Bill to it, saying the draft bill on the Child Rights Law had not been sent to the Assembly for consideration.
According to the Assembly, though the last administration of Governor Timipre Sylva did not assent to the Child Rights Bill received, considered and passed by the Third Assembly, the delay in the presentation of the bill by Governor Dickson for consideration was responsible for its non-passage.
The Speaker, Hon. Konbowei Benson, made this known during a call on him by the members of the Bayelsa Children Parliament, led by its Speaker, Miss Bio Ibogomo Tonyefa.
Benson said the House of Assembly was waiting for the executive arm of government to represent the bill to the Fourth Assembly for consideration and speedy passage.
According to him, “The child rights bill, which was passed by the last state assembly, was not assented to, by the former governor, hence, it has to be reintroduced to the present assembly for due consideration and passage.”
