Youths opposed to the emergence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 14th Fulani emir of Kano continued their protest Monday forcing schools ans shops to close.

Naijalog correspondent saw bonfire on Emir palace road and residents holding green leaves while chanting “bamuayi” in solidarity.

A number of schools remain shut in the city while additional security was noticed in banks premises.

Although the protests were concentrated within the old city, millions of city dwellers avoided the streets.

In Sabon Gari,  a predominantly Christian quarters, business activities suffered hiccup as most shop remained closed for fear of looting by protesters.

However, there was a beehive of activities at Government offices with civil servants at their duty posts.

Commenting on the development, Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, said “yes, we have some security challenges at hand but we have deployed counter measures to address them”.
