Police in Lagos State nabbed Kadiri Akeem, a lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), for reportedly raping a 20-year-old student.
The victim charged the associate professor of botany with the crime when she visited Dr. Babalola’s office to discuss issues with her findings.
The girl claimed that Babalola, the lecturer, had sexually assaulted her on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, and that she had informed the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation of the event.
After InclusiveSWEF reported the circumstance to the Gender Unit of the state police command, the state CP, Idowu Owohunwa, filed an arrest warrant for Babalola through the state High Court. The vice chancellor of UNILAG also took part.
The VC had seven days to present Babalola, and the NGO said that when the VC called the rogue lecturer in for questioning, he had confessed to the crime. Babalola was taken into custody after the VC contacted the police via the school’s chief security officer.
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “He is to appear in court in the coming days.”
