Tension has arisen in Katsina State’s capital due to a social media post that offended some residents. The post, written in Hausa by Mani Abubakar, a Christian indigene of the state, reportedly made derogatory remarks about Islam, questioning its foundation and the origins of the Quran. The controversial post led to outrage, prompting a mob to seek retribution. They attempted to locate and harm Abubakar but instead burned down his house and car in Babaruga after he fled late Tuesday night, Jan. 30. Abubakar’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
The Christian Association of Nigeria is collaborating with authorities and plans to meet with the Emir of Katsina to ensure Abubakar’s safety upon his reappearance. Christian leaders in the state are urging for calm and mutual respect.
Venerable Muyiwa Segun, Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Katsina, condemned violence or disrespect toward other religions, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect. He affirmed that Christians should refrain from insulting other religions, stating that such behavior is not a method of evangelism. Segun also confirmed that CAN is working with security forces and religious leaders to maintain peace and security in the community.
