Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said many of the allegations of corrupt practices against his administration by the new government are untrue.
He made this remark on Thursday in Washington DC, while debunking claims that he approved the sum of $2 billion for the procurement of arms.
Jonathan, said “people have been playing politics with serious issues.”
“Sometimes, I feel sad when people mention these figures,” he said.
“I did not award any $2 billion contract for procurement of weapons. Where did the money come from? I did not award a contract of $2billion for procurement of weapons.
“When the president paid official visit to the US, there were some figures that were mentioned that I don’t believe. He didn’t say my government, he said previous administrations,” Jonathan further said.
Meanwhile Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki who is at the center of the arm procurement scandal noted in another statement recently that “all contracts and accruing payments were with the approval of the president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces… So, there was due process for every purchase in line with regulations guiding arms procurement for the armed forces.”
“In a theatrical manner, the presidency fed the public with many allegations against my person and yet-to-be-named former public officers,” a portion of the statement read.
Dasuki who is vehemently insisting that he did not misappropriating huge sums of money during his time in office remains under house arrest despite a court order ruling which says he should be allowed to travel out of Nigeria for medical check.
