The claim circulating on WhatsApp groups alleging that former Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, attempted to flee the country disguised in female attire to evade arrest by the EFCC has been fact-checked and debunked.
According to Dubawa’s report, the image used to support the claim was manipulated and actually depicts the late Jane Nnamani, wife of former Senate president Ken Nnamani. The original photo was shared in a blog in May 2023 to announce Jane Nnamani’s death.
The viral image began circulating after the EFCC declared Bello wanted on charges of money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds totaling N80.2 billion. However, investigations revealed that the photo claiming Bello’s escape was falsified.
The EFCC had previously laid siege to Bello’s residence in Abuja, capturing the attention of the media.
