In the fast-paced world of Nigerian music, the internet never forgets. Producer-turned-singer Young Jonn recently made headlines after publicly turning down a collaboration proposal from rapper Blaqbonez, citing a critical social media post from nearly a decade ago.

The Social Media Exchange

The banter began when Young Jonn took to his social media platform to express his desire for a close-knit circle, writing, “I need like 5 bad friends way we go dey move in bulk!” Spying an opportunity for a musical partnership, Chocolate City rapper Blaqbonez quickly responded, “Oya, make we dey together, sing as one.”

However, instead of accepting the offer, the “Xtra Cool” crooner dug deep into the archives. Young Jonn replied by sharing a screenshot of a tweet from 2015 in which Blaqbonez had openly compared him to fellow hitmaker DJ Coublon, declaring his preference for the latter.

The Resurfaced Grudge

In the original 2015 tweet, Blaqbonez had stated that he preferred DJ Coublon’s production style over Young Jonn’s. Seizing the perfect moment for petty payback, Young Jonn shut down the collaboration request by tweeting, “Go sing as one with Coublon.”

Attempting to salvage the situation and clear his name, Blaqbonez quickly denied authorship of the old post. The rapper claimed that the controversial opinion was published by his social media handler back in 2015.

While the interaction appears to be lighthearted industry banter, it serves as a humorous reminder to artists that past online commentary can always come back to affect future collaborations.
