WOMAN DROWNS IN IBADAN

A woman, Ramatu Saka, was Wednesday [April 2] drowned in a river in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Saka was said to have jumped into the river in Ogungbade area of the city with the intention of bathing but did not survive the dive as she was swept away by the river.

A sympathizer and resident of the area was said to have reported the incident to the police after all efforts to retrieve her failed. Residents wailed on learning about the incident which threw the entire area into sudden mourning.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Olabisi Okuwobi, who confirmed the incident said residents made concerted efforts to retrieve the drowned woman but that they were futile.

She said a police team visited the scene, adding that the command would make efforts to retrieve her corpse.
