Lucy Samuel, a 29-year-old woman, who resides in Ejigbo, a surburb of Lagos, was on Thursday charged to a Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting her 13-year-old stepdaughter.
The girl had confided in her stepmother that her father usually forced her to have sex with him in her absence. In anger, Lucy inflicted pains on the girl by inserting knife in the girl’s private parts and buttocks.
Mrs Abimbola Owolabi, teacher of the 13-year-old girl, who noticed that the girl was usually uncomfortable in class, discovered the wounds on her body and took up the matter, leading to the arrest of Lucy.
The prosecutor, Insp. Gbemileke Agoi, told the court that the accused and her husband conspired and assaulted the 13-year-old on April 6. Agoi noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 243 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye, the Chief Magistrate, granted a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties to the woman, who pleaded not guilty to the charges and t
