Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the news of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, officially resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the governor left the PDP along with the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all 22 PDP lawmakers in the state legislature.
The announcement, made during the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa, finally confirms months of rumors surrounding Diri’s alleged plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, his camp has yet to reveal his next political destination.
Reacting to the mass defection, Wike took a swipe at those who had accused him of undermining the PDP. In a post shared by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, on X (formerly Twitter), Wike wrote:
“WIKE: Those who said I was working with the APC to sabotage the PDP are, themselves, moving out of the PDP to the same APC. Shouldn’t they be thanking me for making their dream a reality?”
