Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will continue to give his political rivals “sleepless nights” as long as his actions remain within the law.
Wike made the statement on Thursday during a media briefing held after the FCT Executive Committee meeting. His remarks followed widespread reactions to his recent clash with a naval officer, Lieutenant AM Yerima, over a land dispute in the Gaduwa area of Abuja.
The contested plot originally designated for Parks and Recreation was reportedly being altered by its owner, former Chief of Naval Staff Awwal Gambo (retd.). Attempts by FCT officials to stop the illegal development were blocked when military personnel were deployed to the site.
Upset by the obstruction, Wike visited the location with his team, but they were denied access by Yerima and other officers, leading to a tense confrontation that later went viral nationwide.
Addressing the controversy, Wike insisted he was unapologetic about his stance: “I have no regret of my political opponents; I will continue to make them have sleepless nights, whether you are in PDP, APC, or ADC. I have no regrets, in as much as I know that I’m standing by the law, if you like bring any ethnicity and colouration, it’s your business.”
